The Chariot of Souls: Finding Stillness in the Divine Procession
Date: June 19, 2023
There is a profound, rhythmic magic that occurs when the divine decides to leave the temple. On Rath Yatra, the Festival of Chariots, we witness the Lord of the Universe, Jagannath, stepping out from the sacred inner sanctum to walk among the people.
For those of us who walk a “green” or “witchy” path, there is so much to resonate with in this ancient Hindu celebration. It isn’t just a festival; it is a cosmic reminder that the Divine is not meant to be locked away behind altar veils or dusty bookshelves. The Divine is meant to roll through the streets of our lives—messy, loud, colorful, and wildly present.
The Alchemy of the Procession
Rath Yatra centers on the movement of massive, towering chariots. It is a spectacle of collective energy. Thousands of hands pull the ropes, creating a singular, unified intention.
In our own practice, we often focus on the solitary work of the candle flame or the quiet meditation of the garden. But today, remember the power of the procession. Just as the chariots move through the city, our intentions must move through our daily lives.
- Release the Inner Temple: What have you been holding back? What “deities” or intentions have you kept hidden in the inner sanctum of your mind? Today is the day to bring them out into the light of the sun.
- The Power of the Collective: Even as a solitary practitioner, you are part of a greater tapestry. Today, visualize your energy flowing out, connecting with the “seekers” and “moon children” across the globe. We are all pulling the same rope, moving toward a collective awakening.
- Celebrating the Journey: The chariot reminds us that spiritual growth is not a destination. It is a journey that requires effort—sometimes we pull, sometimes we ride, but we are always moving forward.
A Small Ritual for the Day
You don’t need a massive chariot to honor this energy. Find a small wooden toy, a stone, or even a leaf, and place it on a cloth or a small board. Today, “parade” it through your home. Move it from your workspace to your altar, from your kitchen to your garden.
As you move this object, speak your intentions aloud. Let your home be the street, let your voice be the music, and let your movement be the prayer. Acknowledge that your path is sacred and that you are allowed to take up space in this world, just as the Lord of the Universe does today.
May your journey be filled with joy, movement, and the courage to step out from your own shadows.
With love and moonlight,
Moonzie
