Shedding the Shadows: Releasing Fear, Control, and Illusion
As the wheel of the year turns and the energy of mid-May settles into our bones, we find ourselves at a potent crossroads of transformation. The vibrant growth outside mirrors the internal shifting within, urging us to look closely at what we carry in our spiritual satchels. To truly bloom, we must first learn the art of the “unbecoming.”
Transformation isn’t just about adding new layers; it’s about stripping away the heavy cloaks that no longer serve our highest path. Specifically, we must look at the three great anchors of the psyche: fear, control, and illusion.
The Anchor of Fear
Fear is often the loudest voice in the room, a jagged energy that tethers us to the shore of “safe but stagnant.” In the craft, we recognize that fear is frequently a projection of a future that hasn’t happened. When we sit with our shadows, we realize that most of what we fear is the loss of the familiar.
- The Release: Light a single black candle to represent the unknown. Breathe into the space where fear sits in your chest. Acknowledge its presence, then visualize it dissolving into smoke, leaving only the clarity of the present moment.
The Illusion of Control
We often mistake “grip” for “power.” We try to micromanage the universe, demanding that manifestations arrive in specific boxes at specific times. But control is a brittle shield. True magic happens in the flow, not the force. When we stop trying to dictate every ebb and flow of the tide, we finally allow the current to take us where we actually need to go.
- The Release: Find a handful of dried leaves or small stones. Assign a “control” you are holding onto to each one. Drop them into a moving body of water or bury them in the earth, physically letting go of the need to manage the outcome.
The Fog of Illusion
Illusion is the veil we pull over our own eyes—the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what we deserve, and how the world works. These are the “glamours” we cast on our own lives to avoid facing the raw, unfiltered truth. To transform, the veil must be lifted.
- The Release: Cleanse a piece of clear quartz or look into a bowl of still water. Ask to see the truth of a situation without the tint of your own expectations. Allow the “fog” to clear, accepting whatever reality remains underneath.
Embracing the Transformation
When these three blocks are cleared, a profound space opens up. This is the “Void”—the fertile ground where genuine metamorphosis begins. It can feel quiet, even a little lonely at first, but it is the only space where your soul can truly stretch its wings.
Step into the light of the sun, feel the earth beneath your feet, and trust that the universe has a much grander design for you than the one you were trying to enforce.
Stay enchanted,
Moonzie
