Finding magic in the movement—may your journey be as intentional as the destination.

Riding the Wheel: A Witch’s Guide to World Bicycle Day

There is a distinct, rhythmic magic found in the circular motion of a bicycle wheel. As we observe World Bicycle Day on June 3, it is easy to view the bicycle as merely a tool for transit or sport. However, for those of us who practice the craft, the bicycle is a profound instrument of manifestation, movement, and connection to the Earth beneath our feet.

In the language of the cosmos, the wheel is a sacred symbol—representing the cycle of the seasons, the turning of the zodiac, and the infinite nature of existence itself. When you take your bike out onto the path, you are not just traveling from one point to another; you are walking the wheel, grounding your energy into the landscape, and inviting the breeze to clear your spirit.

Cycling as a Moving Meditation

Many practitioners find that stationary meditation is not the only way to reach an altered state of consciousness. Kinetic movement—especially the repetitive, hypnotic pedaling of a bicycle—can induce a “flow state” that mirrors the focus required for deep scrying or ritual work.

  • Grounding through Rhythm: Focus on the sensation of your feet against the pedals. With every rotation, imagine you are pulling energy up from the soil through your bike frame and into your body, rooting yourself firmly in the present moment.
  • Charging the Path: Before you head out, set an intention for your ride. Are you looking to clear away stagnant energy? Seek clarity on a specific dilemma? Or perhaps simply offer gratitude to the landscape? State your intent clearly, and let the miles you cover be a testament to your focus.
  • Bicycle Breathwork: Use the incline of the road to regulate your breathing. As you pedal uphill, inhale deeply, gathering the vitality of the air; as you crest the hill and coast down, exhale with force, releasing anything that no longer serves your path.

The Alchemy of the Commute

Whether you are riding to work, running errands, or simply wandering the backroads, consider your bicycle your “chariot of the mundane.” You are traversing the physical world while remaining anchored in your spiritual practice.

On this World Bicycle Day, I invite you to take the long way home. Pay attention to the wildflowers growing along the verge, the shifts in the wind, and the way the light filters through the trees. In these small, observant moments, you are practicing a form of “Earth-walking”—a way of acknowledging that we are part of the landscape, not just observers of it.

Take your bike out, find your rhythm, and remember: the wheel turns, the season shifts, and you are always right where you are meant to be.

Blessed be,

Moonzie
