Magick in the Marketplace: Honoring Black Business Month

August brings with it the heavy, abundant energy of late summer—a time of harvesting what has been sown and sharing the bounty with our communities. As we navigate the energetic shifts of the season, August also calls us to a very specific, grounded form of magic: National Black Business Month.

In our practice, we often talk about energy exchange. We understand that where we direct our focus, our intentions, and our resources is a spell in itself. This month is a powerful invitation to align our purchasing power with our highest values by intentionally seeking out, supporting, and amplifying Black entrepreneurs, artisans, and practitioners.

The Alchemy of Commerce

Money, at its core, is a current of energy. Conscious consumption is the practice of directing that current to build the kind of world we want to inhabit. Historically, Black-owned businesses have faced systemic barriers to growth and visibility. When we choose to spend our dollars within these communities, we are actively participating in the alchemy of economic empowerment. We are helping to balance the scales and breathing life into dreams, legacies, and family lines.

Supporting the Mystical Community

The witchy, spiritual, and holistic spaces are rich with Black creators who carry immense wisdom and ancestral magic. This month, consider looking closely at the tools and treasures you use in your own craft.

  • Apothecaries and Herbalists: Seek out Black-owned botanical shops for your ritual herbs, teas, and tinctures. Many of these practitioners weave deep ancestral knowledge into their rootwork and plant medicine.
  • Diviners and Astrologers: Book a reading with a Black tarot reader or astrologer. Engaging with different perspectives and energetic signatures enriches your own spiritual understanding.
  • Artisans and Crafters: From hand-poured intention candles and ritual oils to crystal jewelry and altar cloths, the craftsmanship within this community is breathtaking.

Conscious Consumption as Ritual

You don’t need to empty your cauldron to make a difference. Magic is found in the everyday, intentional choices. Here is how you can turn your support into a daily ritual this month (and beyond):

  1. Do the Research: Take time to curate your feed. Follow Black creators, save their posts, and engage with their content. The algorithm responds to your attention.
  2. Leave Reviews: Words hold power. If you’ve purchased from a Black-owned business, cast a spell of prosperity for them by leaving a glowing, detailed review.
  3. Share the Wealth: Word of mouth is deeply valuable. Recommend your favorite Black-owned shops, readers, and healers to your friends and coven mates.

True magic doesn’t just happen at the altar; it happens in our communities. It is in the way we show up, the way we share our light, and the way we honor the divine spark in one another. Let’s make this August a month of intentional abundance and radical support.

Stay magic,

Moonzie
