Gwydion Pendderwen was a prominent figure in the American pagan and neopagan movement. He was born on November 1, 1946, and passed away on May 12, 1982. Gwydion Pendderwen, whose birth name was Tom deLong, was an influential musician, songwriter, and activist.
Pendderwen was involved in the revival of pagan and witchcraft traditions in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s. He was a member of the Reformed Druids of North America (RDNA) and played a significant role in the creation of its California branch. He contributed to the writing of the RDNA’s liturgy and participated in their public rituals.
As a musician, Pendderwen released several albums that reflected his spiritual and environmental beliefs. His music was often categorized as folk, with influences from Celtic and pagan traditions. Some of his notable albums include ”Songs for the Old Religion” (1975), “The Faerie Shaman” (1976), and “The Green Album” (1982).
Pendderwen was also actively involved in environmental activism and advocated for nature conservation and preservation. He co-founded the Green Circle, an organization dedicated to ecological awareness and sustainable living. Pendderwen’s activism and music often intertwined, promoting a deep connection with nature and a reverence for the Earth.
Unfortunately, Gwydion Pendderwen’s life was tragically cut short when he died in a car accident on May 12, 1982, at the age of 35. However, his contributions to the pagan and neopagan movement, both through his music and activism, continue to inspire and resonate with many people today.
