~May 6
Mother of divinity,
face of infinity,
shine forth upon me.
Shine forth upon my prayer,
you who makes all things fair.
Shine forth upon me.
Make me a fertile field.
Let all my projects yield.
Shine forth upon me.
Give me this dawn’s rewards
Know you are well adored.
Shine forth upon me.
-Invocations from the Indian Rig Veda
In Hindu philosophy, the great goddess is sometimes named Aditi, the infinite. Her sister is Diti, which indicates both the earth and everything that has bounds and limits. Thus this Asian great wisdom shows us how the creativity Nature shows to us is composed equally of what we can fathom and what is beyond our understanding.
Even as we acknowledge the incomprehensibility of life, the goddess provokes us to attempt to understand. And so we open ourselves to her mystery and her majesty. Remaining bounded by our own limits, we would never reach our full potential. Even if we cannot reach her vast limits, we cannot help but reach for them.
