Moonzie Momma

A joyful woman with long wavy hair wearing a flower crown, holding a large bouquet of wildflowers, standing in a lush green Irish meadow filled with yellow buttercups and white daisies on a bright spring day.
“Summer is coming, and with it, the year’s goddess enters a new phase of her life.”

~ May 2

Summer! Summer! The cow’s mild milk
and the goddess with summer within her,
and the yellow summer, and the white daisies,
and the goddess with summer within her.
-Irish May Day song

With the coming of May, the ancient Irish year celebrated the coming of summer. In our calendar, it is still spring. For us, summer does not officially start until the solstice, when the sun’s light is at its peak. But intuitively we recognize the wisdom of welcoming a new season at this time, when we gather armfuls of flowers and open our doors to the fresh new breezes, bearing the fragrances of newly cut grass and blossoming trees.

The season of changeable weather is passing, and the season of growth is upon us. Summer is coming, and with it, the year’s goddess enters a new phase of her life. No longer the maiden, she is now the blooming young mother, giving birth to her innumerable children. As we welcome her, we also make room for new growth within our own lives.
