Moonzie Momma

A contemplative scene in a dense, mossy forest featuring a robed figure standing on a path, looking toward a radiant, glowing rose-window shaped light in the distance; in the foreground, a thorny branch with blooming pink roses stretches across the view, accompanied by the text of a poem by Rabbi Isaac of Laig.
“The forest is beyond my strength. My rose is hidden far from me.” A meditation on growth, challenges, and the soul’s wisdom, inspired by the song of Rabbi Isaac of Laig.

~June 5

The forest is beyond my strength.
My rose is hidden far from me.
If the wood were less in length
My rose would be less far from me.

If I could have my precious rose,
I’d live in love forever.
If I knew what Shekinah knows
My exile would be shorter.
—Song of Rabbi Isaac of Laig

One of the great symbols of the soul’s wisdom is the rose: that many-petaled, fragrant beauty that begins to bud and blossom at this time of year. Like the rose-windows that shone in medieval cathedrals, the rose shines forth from spiritual poetry, embodying profound spiritual meaning.

This thorny, brambly bush produces the most extraordinary flowers, washing our lives with color and beauty. So, too, the challenges of our lives are necessary for us to flourish as fully as our souls allow. A life without difficulties is impossible; it would also be a life with no opportunity for growth. Our exile grows shorter when, rather than running from difficulty, we embrace it and permit it to open our hearts.
