A split-screen illustration depicting the cycle of life. On the left, labeled "June 4" and "LIFE," a lush, vibrant summer landscape filled with colorful wildflowers and a migrating herd of caribou under a bright sky. On the right, labeled "WINTER" and "CLOSURE," a snowy, desolate landscape featuring ancient rock art of caribou and skeletal remains, representing the cyclical nature of life and death.
Embracing the cyclical truth of all life: understanding that openings follow closures, and that light and dark times are both essential parts of the journey.

~June 4

It is pleasant, it is finally pleasant,
this world, this great world.

It is pleasant, it is finally pleasant,
this great world when the caribou come.

It is pleasant, it is finally pleasant,
this great world when it is summer at last.
—Eskimo summer song

Yes, it is finally summer. No matter how long winter seemed to last, once spring slips away and summer dawns, we banish thoughts of the cold and the darkness. We relish the touch of warm air on our shoulders. Our senses are filled with the color, the fragrance, the sounds of summer.

This is life’s cycle. Openings follow periods of closure. Life follows death, as surely as death follows life. No matter how difficult matters may seem, we can always find solace in awareness of the cyclical truth of all life.

This is consoling when life is difficult, but why remember the dark times when light floods our life? Because dark times will come again. Winter will follow summer. It is not depressing to realize that even glorious days will come to an end. Rather, it can allow us to relish them all the more fully, knowing that they will pass.
