Related Myths
One key myth that explains the meaning of Leo constellation is that of the Nemean lion that Hercules set out to defeat. Considered an invincible beast, the Nemean lion was undefeatable and terrorized citizens. Hercules was tasked with conquering this lion as one of his twelve labors, but no weapon could pierce its skin. Finally, Hercules killed the lion by strangling it – a metaphor of how central self-expression is to themes of Leo.
Magick
Leo is ruled by the Sun, so there is no better time to use Leo in Magic than during Leo season from July 23 to August 22. With the sun in this sign, as well as a new moon in Leo, this period is vibrant with Leo energy. But even when the sun isn’t in this sign, you can use its power throughout daylight to bless any Leo-aligned magical endeavors, whether it is sunrise to inspire new beginnings or the midday sun for success and strength. You can also uncover when the Leo constellation is visible at night. Using its bright star Regulus to find it, and cast your magick under the generous luminosity of this star that marks the celestial lion’s heart.
