Reflection in Upright:

Do you want to do something that feels too daunting? Think of recent professional creative or personal achievements that you nearly gave up on because they were so much work. Were you ever frustrated with your progress? Did you feel like you would never make it? How does your perspective change now that you’ve accomplished them?

Action in Upright:

Evaluate your accomplishments As you push forward with your goals, take time to appreciate everything that you’ve hard for. Be proud of what you’ve achieved.

Look for signs of progress Don’t minimize your achievements. Find three things that are evidence of how much you’ve grown or progressed with your current project.

Reward yourself Even the smallest things are worth being happy about and celebration. Keep yourself motivated with positive reinforcement. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Reflection in Reverse:

What does progress mean to you? Is it outwardly visible or more subtle? How do you measure it? We can improve our life little by little without seeing obvious outward changes. Sometimes progress means nurturing a new way of thinking. Sometimes it can be accepting that change comes slowly. How can you develop your patience?

Action in Reverse:

Redefine progress Sometime we can get fixated on other people’s markers of progress. This only magnifies setbacks when they happen. Measure your own progress by identifying what matters to you most.

Analyze and refocus use a trial-and-error approach. See what worked and what didn’t. Focus your energy on what provided results and reduce the time you invest in what didn’t

Distinguish Knowing when to change direction and when to push through is a fine art. Follow your instincts, but validate them with facts, figures, and objectivity.

Journal Prompt: Where are you in your process, and how does it feel to reflect on the work you’ve already done? What does it feel like to be in your body right now, to acknowledge the resources you’ve gathered and created, to consider the road ahead? What are you protecting, and what do you feel responsible for? How is your work reflecting your longings?
