The seven of Cups is traditionally seen as a card of daydreaming and wishful thinking, of having so many options that you are unable to settle on any of them. The seven of Cups in the image are often shown full of various items which may tempt us, such as jewels, fruits, the snake which symbolizes regeneration or the laurel wreath which symbolises victory. When the Seven of Cups appears, you may be feeling that you want it all, or that you have no idea what you want. The Seven of Cups can symbolise illusions and an excess of imagination. This is a card of abundance, but it also indicates a need for discernment, for looking closely at each option and deciding whether it is superficial lor meaningful, something that we truly want or something that is imposed on us by others. This discernment is necessary to bring the products of your imagination into tangible reality.

Reflection in Upright:

Are endless options enticing and tempting you, seductive in their own way? Are you avoiding reality in lieu of pursuing some fantasy? What daydream do you have that allow you to remain dreaming without taking action? Can you turn your romantic, professional, or creative daydreams into an actionable plan?

Action in Upright:

List the consequences Make a list of the best and worst possible outcomes. Understand what can be lost and gained with each choice. Don’t let possibilities float disorganized in your head. Putting things down on paper makes them feel real.

Be realist Identify paths you can actually work towards and follow them with passion.

Scale down your dreams It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing affair- our dreams can come true, or at least a version of them. Identify how you can scale down dreams to make them more practical and achievable.

Reflection in Reverse:

An abundance of options can be invitabull situation or a nightmare of potential regrets. Are you paralyzed by an overwhelming amount of choice? Do you retreat into your own world? Do you take the easiest route? In some extremes, this card can also point to a drug or alcohol problem. What choices are too painful or crushing for you?

Action in Reverse:

Be aware of warning signs Being cognizant of how you react when overwhelmed can help you see the signs before things worsen. Start planning when you feel this coming

Give yourself time limit Keep yourself accountable. You don’t want to rush decisions but a deadline can keep you focused.

Unmask anxieties Name your fears, uncover which of these are realistic, and which of these are fabrications of your anxieties. Determine where your anxieties originate and plan around those that are real.

Journal Prompt: How do you tell the difference between an idea that is fun to indulge and a deep-seated desire? What helps you identify real longings, and how do you prioritize the things that you crave? If you really could have anything you wanted, what would you pursue first? What does your imagination keep leading you to back to and how can you translate that fantasy into a reality?
